EV CHARGERS

Charge Your Electric Vehicle With Solar Energy

The future of driving is electric. Solar energy is an unlimited resource.
Paired together, is awesome.

A lot of advantages when you own an Electric Vehicle (EV), from the environmental impact, quieter, savings you can make on fuel, tax, and maintenance costs, you save significant amounts of money and the list goes on. EV’s are on-trend right now and companies are continuously innovating making it more and more advanced, promise to cut charging times to minutes, extend range significantly and further enhance safety and automation features. If you have one or planning to have one, here is some information on how charging an EV works using solar power.

Two Types of EV Plug in Australia

Type 2: The most commonly used plug for home EV charging. It is also referred to as the IEC 62196 Type 2 of Mennekes plug and used by the vast majority of EV manufacturers, including Tesla. This plug has a seven-pin design, with five power pins to support three-phase charging.

Type 1 plugs are also used in Australia. They have a five-pin design. The two small pins are for data between the car and the charger to determine the maximum current to the car and also prevent the car from moving while connected.

Levels of EV Charging

Level 1 is the slowest form of charging. It is a charging system that plugs into an existing power point (GPO). This means a maximum of only 2.4kW charge or 10Amps can be achieved.

Level 2 is a special purpose charging system that is hard-wired into the home’s electrical wiring. Hard-wire charging system allows a higher current to flow than Level 1 charger. This significantly increases the rate of charging compared to a Level 1 charger.

Level 3 is purpose-built charging stations that are often used in public places. They allow even faster charging than Level 2 chargers.

Charge Fast! Our EV chargers are fast charging and can power your electric vehicle for miles.

If you are looking to install solar it is worthwhile thinking about using your solar system for EV charging. Here are the best solar inverter options for use when charging your EV:

SOLAREDGE
EV Charger

Solaredge is known to release the World’s First 2-in-1 EV Charger and Solar Inverter. With the ability to charge EVs up to 2.5 times faster than a standard EV charger through an innovative solar boost mode that utilizes grid and PV charging simultaneously. By installing the Solaredge EV charging inverter, no need to install separately a standalone EV charger and a PV inverter. You can also see how your charging is going using by using the SolarEdge monitoring platform application.

SMA
EV Charger

SMA is also a great option which claimed their EV Charger as universal. It is highly flexible and compatible with all standard EVs regardless if your system is brand-new or has been running for quite some time. Uses a type 2 charging cable that is permanently attached.

It charges at almost twice the speed of a conventional charging station. Even small solar capacities can be utilized to the maximum early in the morning and evening thanks to the automatic switchover from single- and three-phase charge modes. Charging up to 22 kW, grid-compatible, single-phase charging with up to 7.4 kW. It can be easily operated using a switch directly on the device or through the SMA Energy app on your smartphone.
