Is Solar Panel efficient during winter?

Seasons in Victoria

With Victoria experiencing four seasons within a year, it’s not new to be curious about how these seasons affect the performance of the rooftop solar panels.

Victoria warms up (Summer) from December to February, Cooler weather and light winds during autumn from March until May. Winter starts in June up to August and snowfalls in the northeast of Victoria, known as High Country. The weather is frequently cold and cloudy, and nights can be accompanied by frosts. Spring season from September to November with rainfalls starting October.

Are Solar Panels Efficient During Winter?

Without a doubt, the answer is YES. Solar panels don’t use the sun’s heat to convert into electricity. But rather requires light rays to get energy and provide power to your solar PV system. So, it doesn’t matter how hot the day is, what matters is the amount of time solar panels get direct sunlight. An additional fact is that solar panels work even more efficiently in cold temperatures

Though there might be a slight difference in terms of the output a solar panel can provide because days are shorter during the winter season. But it doesn’t change the fact that solar panels are still worth having and reliable during this season. If it’s the heating you are worried about, you don’t have to worry because it can support both heating and other energy consumption needs your house or business requires.
During the site inspection, LREnergy makes sure that we provide accurate and honest analysis to come up with the most suitable solar PV system size you will be needing based on your consumption and with special circumstances such as weather changes taken into consideration.
